Akusua Akoto - Hospice Compassus

Although not a native, the state of New Mexico is home to Akusua Akoto. Before becoming a Public Allies member, Akusua attended CNM, Job Corps, and various colleges in Texas. For Akusua, Public Allies New Mexico has had an immediate social benefit for connecting, debating, and forming positive relationships with fellow youth leaders.

Joe Callan - Native American Community Academy.

Joseph Callan is a longtime resident of Albuquerque, NM and currently resides in the same neighborhood he lived in as a child.  Upon his return to Albuquerque after completing military service Joseph decided to join the Public Allies team to positively affect the community, with an emphasis on youth.

Beulah DuBous - Public Allies New Mexico

Beulah M. DuBois grew up in Jones Ranch, 45 minutes South of Gallup, NM.   Albuquerque has been a great adjustment for her and her children.  Joining the New Mexico Public Allies has been a blissful decision made by Beulah, as it will give her a new direction towards her opportunities to pursue a higher level of education, to get her Bachelor's degree, and possibly a Master’s degree.  This has been a positive career move towards the non-profit world for her to help the youth and the surrounding communities.

Ana Maria Havens - New Mexico Commission on the Status of Women

After having graduated early from her San Joaquin Valley high school, Anna María Havens left California to attend the University of New Mexico.  She graduated from UNM with a B.U.S. in Spanish and Dance concentrated on "The Expression of Latino Heritage."  Anna María divides her time amongst her passions: dance, rape victim & immigrant advocacy, and Public Allies.  She is honored to serve youth as a Public Ally in charter school and non-profit support through community engagement.

Kateri Tenorio - Native American Community Academy

Kateri Tenorio was born and raised in New Mexico and lives in Albuquerque.  For the last five years Kateri has dedicated her time to raising her three children. She enjoys and is passionate about being involved with hip hop culture, organizing and participating in local hip hop events focusing on break dancing.  She is passionate about working with the youth by helping them achieve their goals.

Amber Lewis - New Mexico Youth Alliance

Amber Lewis is part of the Rio Rancho graduating class of 2008.  She was born and raised in California and New Mexico.  She has joined the Public Allies in an attempt to help her peers and the community in Albuquerque, NM.  Amber's placement focuses on supporting the New Mexico Youth Alliance, a statewide youth leadership forum connected to the New Mexico Children's Cabinet.

Colleen Chávez is from Santa Fe, NM and lives in Albuquerque, NM.  She recently graduated from UNM with a Bachelors of Arts in Latin American Studies and Spanish.  Colleen is excited to be a part of New Mexico Public Allies and looks forward to working with New Mexico's youth and communities.

Jericha Phillips - South Valley Academy

Jericha Phillips has lived in New Mexico since she was 7 years old. She attended high school at South Valley Academy, a local charter school, as a member of the first graduating class. She then spent four years at St. John's College in Santa Fe, where she earned her bachelor's studying the Great Books of the Western world. Yearning for some practical service work, she returned to Albuquerque after graduation to prepare for a career in education. Jericha is placed back where she came from--at South Valley Academy, where the small school setting creates a strong appreciation of community--both in the school and outside of it.
