LIGHTS ON
AFTERSCHOOL
Albuquerque, New Mexico,
Tiguex Park
Close to 700 individuals particpated
in Lights On Afterschool in the Park. The agenda
included Afterschool Alliance Executive Director
Judy Samelson, City of Albuquerque Lights On
Afterschool Proclamation Presentation, NM Children's
Cabinet Director Address, Albuquerque Public Schools
Superintendent's Office Address, Student
Entertainment, Fractal Balloon 6:00 PM Light UP,
Isotope's Orbit Mascot Appearance, Funny Bizness
Clown Face Painting, and Out-of-School Time Program
Booth Activities. Pepsi and Peter and Piper Pizza
helped supply refreshments and food. The
Albuquerque Public Schools Foundation and the City
of Albuquerque Family and Community Services
Department contributed funding to the event. The
National Council of La Raza AmeriCorps Members and
several out-of-school time programs contributed
their time and service to the event.

Out-of-School Time Action Network
is comprised of over 40 diverse organizations and
groups focused on ensuring afterschool as an
"answer" for NM children and youth. How are they
doing this? By committing their time and expertise

connected to Children's Cabinet outcomes

Identifying additional partners with a role
to play

Being present to discuss afterschool
challenges and promising/best practices
