The Farmington Public Libraries
provide materials and service to help community
residents obtain information meeting their personal,
educational, and professional needs. Special
emphasis is placed on community literacy projects,
supporting students at all academic levels and on
stimulating interests and appreciation for reading
and learning. The libraries serve as learning and
educational centers for all residents of the
community. The Farmington Public Library serves as
one of the 10 RPO's supporting a statewide youth
development regional infrastructure for NM through
the NM Forum for Youth in Community. It is through
this forum that we are able to provide youth events,
trainings, and resources for the youth in our
community. The Farmington Public Library maintains
a community youth events calendar to assure youth
and community involvement. Three Farmington Library
highlights:
-
The
"Get Real Teen Summit"
is held in April and open to every teen in San
Juan County and provides leadership activities
and workshops throughout the day.
-
The Mayor's Teen Advisory Council
was founded in 2002 by a high school student.
Members help plan programs and services,
recommend and review materials, and suggest ways
in which teens can become involved and enhance
teen services.
-
Teen Zone
designed by the teens in the community with
direction from the Library Administration, City
Manager, Mayor and Architects for the teens in
the community.
